Why do I need a Chrome Manifold?
My boiler has a circulation pump. Why do I need another one on the manifold?
The pump in the boiler circulates hot water to the radiators and the under floor heating manifolds. The pump on the under floor heating manifold is positioned downstream of the blending valve and used to pump water around the under floor heating pipework. When the temperature of the under floor heating water reaches the point set on the blending valve it closes and isolates the under floor heating from the boiler or heat source. When this happens the manifold pump keeps the under floor heating water pumping around the under floor heating system.
Why do we need a manifold and what is its function?
The manifold acts as the distribution hub for the under floor heating pipework and the connection between the under floor heating and the heat source. This means there are no joints under the concrete floor; it is one continuous run. The manifold is a mixing manifold and therefore needed to mix the hot water from the boiler to attain the lower temperature for the under floor heating.
How big is the manifold?
Each Manifold is different depending on the number of Ports. A 10 Port Chrome Manifold is approximately 450mm wide. Ideally, the top of the manifold should be positioned between 600mm and 700mm from the floor high enough to bend the under floor heating pipework up to it.
Where should I place the manifold?
The manifold should be placed as close to the room that is to be heated as possible. If it is a multi zone system, the manifold should be placed as near to the centre of the house as possible so as to heat any of the rooms with pipework from another room.

Fitting the Manifold
Fixing the manifold
Place & install the manifold according to your
CAD drawing.
Although the manifold has a pump with a
low noise level, we advise not to install the
unit close to a bed, in a bedroom or behind
a timber partition wall.
Any noise could be increased due to the
'sound box' effect created by the timber
partitioning.
Generally the manifold is mounted 600mm to 700mmm
above the floor and should be level. It can be
mounted at a different height, upside down or on
a different floor to the one being heated.
Discuss this with your technician.
Ample space should be given to the manifold in
order that the unit can be serviced in the future. More Information can be found on our Installation Video File.
Step 1. Once this area has been installed, the
pipe should be cut & connected to the
front valve of the manifold and labelled.
Step 2. If the pipe length is longer than the
required area, several rooms may be
coming from 1x larger coil, the pipe itself
is clearly marked at every metre, to
allow you to check how much pipe has
been used.
Step 3. Repeat the above until all ports have
been installed & connected to the
manifold.
Pipes passing through the screed and up to the
manifold should be sleeved 600mm either side.
